Contributions and membership

Explanation
  • contributor

LegalQuants — not this repository — sets the rules for its own membership. This page explains how contributing to LQ.AI relates to them.

LegalQuants states its own membership routes at legalquants.com/brand, not here — that page, not this one, is the canonical description if the two ever disagree. As LegalQuants states it: there are three routes in — completing the LQ Residency, passing LQ Assess, or receiving a direct invitation.

There is no paid tier and no purchasable credential. Membership is maintained by contribution rather than payment, and members who stop contributing for an extended period are removed to make room for more active ones.

A membership or contribution label does not by itself establish a professional qualification or competence in a particular legal task — it recognizes participation in the community, not legal expertise.

Contribution does not guarantee membership

Section titled “Contribution does not guarantee membership”

Contributing to LQ.AI does not replace those three routes. It is one of the ways contribution itself is demonstrated once someone is already inside the community, or is being evaluated for one of the three routes in. That is the extent of what this repository’s own record supports: a material contribution counts, on the same terms as any other form of active participation the brand page describes — in its words, “taking part in LQAI or other LQ Labs build initiatives, contributing to LQ Assess benchmark tasks, and generally advancing LQ’s mission”. Nothing in this repository defines a threshold for “material,” a fast-track, or a guarantee — the decision sits with the people who run the three routes, not with this page. Current membership criteria are LegalQuants’, not this repository’s — confirm them directly with LegalQuants.

What counts as a contribution worth showing is not a mystery, though. The contribution board lists specific, scoped, mergeable items with a contributor profile and an effort estimate attached to each; a merged pull request against one of them, a certified skill acceptance pack (skill-acceptance-tests mini-PRD), or a reviewed and merged skill (skills/CONTRIBUTING.md) are all concrete, checkable evidence of the kind the brand page’s criteria describe. A single typo fix is real, but it is not the same order of evidence as one of those.
